With this intervention at WIENWOCHE 2021, seven industrial designers borrowed the power of measuring to conjure up a world, in which standards are wholly different from our current reality.




Deviation is the norm, exception is the rule. Height: 52 cm, weight: 3410 g, head circumference: 36 cm. Scale and measuring tape welcome us into the world and determine how much we deviate from the calculated norm.
But standardization is deceptive: what gets measured and which units and tolerances are applied is by no means objective, but an expression of power relations, infrastructures and cultural identities. Whoever measures has power.

The alternative instruments ask visitors to measure their gender, their climate sins and the probability of the sun rising in the morning - opening a window into what we will want to consider normality in 2121.
